For many families, paying for a Private Christian School education can feel like a significant financial commitment. To make education at King’s Schools in Shoreline, Washington, more accessible, we offer a solution called Variable Tuition to help families manage tuition costs. Variable tuition allows families a quality education built on a Christ-centered curriculum across all spectrums of our community. Our goal is to extend a helping hand to those who demonstrate a qualified need for financial aid through our Variable Tuition model. This program helps cover the cost of a Christian education. This blog will clarify the difference between Variable Tuition and Financial Aid and help you understand which option best fits your family.

What is Variable Tuition?

Variable Tuition is King’s financial aid program for full-time Kindergarten through 12th-grade students. We recognize the immense importance of Christian education and the sacrifices families make to secure that priceless gift for their children. King’s believes that economic diversity enriches the educational experience for all families and is vital to creating an authentic and thriving Christian community. King’s Schools uses variable tuition to adjust tuition based on your family’s unique financial situation. Rather than paying a fixed tuition rate, you’ll apply for a customized tuition amount that reflects your ability to pay.

How Does Variable Tuition Work?

Through generous donations, our annual auction, and shared facilities with CRISTA Ministries, no one pays 100% of the cost to educate each student. Instead of passing on the full cost of education, King’s families pay no more than 90% per student, the top of the range, also known as the “exit range.”

Some key features of variable tuition include:

  • Custom tailored: Variable Tuition takes into account your family’s financial situation. The more accurate and complete the information provided, the more precisely your tuition will be adjusted.
  • Streamlined application: is simple and confidential, ensuring your family’s tuition is adjusted to match what you can afford.
  • Fewer steps: With Variable Tuition, applying for additional scholarships or discounts is unnecessary. The program streamlines the financial assistance process.

If a family is concerned about their ability to afford the highest tuition rate at King’s, they are welcome to apply for Variable Tuition. Available to current and new families of Kindergarten through grade 12 students, Variable Tuition considers income, assets, family size, and any unusual expenses or unique financial circumstances.

How Variable Tuition is Different

Financial Aid at a Private Christian School like King’s Schools is a need-based assistance program that provides additional funding to help families cover the full cost of tuition. Unlike Variable Tuition, which adjusts tuition based on your financial situation, Financial Aid offers extra funds to supplement what you can afford to pay. Grants typically cover this, and recipients don’t need to repay them.

Variable tuition adjusts the actual tuition rate for each family based on their financial ability, meaning some families may pay significantly less than the standard tuition rate. Financial aid provides extra funds on top of the tuition rate to help cover the remaining costs, reducing what the family is required to pay.
